Quaker Old Fashioned Standard Grits


Savor the tender, creamy flavor of Quaker Grits, the old-fashioned way. They taste great—and they're also low in fat and contain no cholesterol—making them perfect for a healthy breakfast or as a smooth side dish for any meal.

Stove Top Preparation

To Make 1 Serving:

  • 1/4 Cup Grits
  • 1 Cup Water or Milk
  • Dash of salt (optional; for low sodium diets, omit salt)

To Make 4 Servings:

  • 1 Cup Grits
  • 4 Cups Water
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt (optional)

To Make 6 Servings:

  • 1-1/2 Cups Grits
  • 6 Cups Water
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt (optional)


  1. Slowly stir grits and salt into briskly boiling water.
  2. Reduce heat to low; cover. Cook 15 to 20 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

Microwave Preparation (1 Serving)

  • 1/4 Cup Grits
  • 1 Cup Water or Milk
  • Dash of salt (optional)


  1. Combine water, grits and salt in 2 cup microwave-safe bowl; stir.
  2. Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) 7 to 10 minutes or until thickened when stirred.

Microwave ovens vary in power, cooking times may need to be adjusted.

TIP: For thicker grits decrease water; for thinner grits increase water.
